Furnace Festival 2025 Aug 23rd and 24th

On 23rd & 24th of August 2025 , the International Caherconnell Furnace Festival will take place at Caherconnell Fort in the Burren, Co. Clare!

You will be able to see iron smelters from across the globe smelting iron ore into iron. Blacksmiths will be making replicas of iron objects found during excavations at Caherconnell.

The idea of the Furnace Festival was born from a passion for the old iron-making craft and a desire to revive this forgotten art using only sustainable, local resources. Good quality iron ore is common in Ireland and for most of its history, the country was self-sufficient in the production of this metal. The Festival raises awareness about this previous iron production in Ireland and facilitates participation in both the smelting and forging of bloomery iron.

Your all areas ticket includes access to a sheepdog demonstration and a guided or self-guided tour of Caherconnell Fort as well as the Furnace Festival itself.
